Debate on Net Neutrality

I recently posted something Net Neutrality.  The activism in social media was about the consultation paper put up by TRAI on its website. Today, we had a debate in Parliament on this. Rahul Gandhi raised this and went to an extent where one would feel that the government has already made a legislation in this regard.  In fact the decision on this is pending and he should have asked the government for its stand on this.

Here is what the minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad had to say about.  He clarified that TRAI was doing a consultation only and the decision still lies with him and his ministry.  He told the house that they would not do anything that would jeopardize the Net Neutrality in the country.

Good that Rahul asked about this in parliament but then his speech, but then the government is not selling away the internet to the corporates, the decision has not yet been taken and it was a proposal document by TRAI, he should have specified this, his references to Gorbhachev and others seem to be a little too farfetched.  For a party that brought in things like 66A this turn around looks good.

As ever Ravi Shankar Prasad’s remarks were good, he hit the nail in its head and reminded Rahul about the twitter handles that were blocked under the UPA regime.  All in all the internet activism is working and am happy for that.
