Larger rewards and poorer performance


          We all love being paid more and rewarded more, don’t we ? In that case does the title of this post make any sense? No right …. However it is true.  Pay and reward play a  vital role however the motivation for work lies somewhere else.

          The good old theory says that more the incentives more is the performance by the employee. It stands good even today but holds good only for the jobs that involve only mechanical skills. In case the task/job  involves using the cognitive skills and is more brainy, the promise of a larger reward actually detriments the performance. Not believing me ….
