Valantine’s day ….A good change of heart.

I do not support the valentine’s day. I have this question “Does real love require this superficial display and can it be confined to just one day?” To me all this brouhaha about valentines is nothing but a marketing gimmick and the youth fall prey to this . Now, that does not mean that I support the activities of the right-wing Hindu groups either. I am equally against the groups that indulge in moral policing and threaten the couples. I always felt that these groups were making it only more complicated by using violence. A change in the mindset can only be brought through education and the extreme right of India ought to realise this. The more we resist this by force, the harder it gets to get the message across. It is always better to educate the youth than to stop this by force. I really welcome VHP decision to live and let live this year. The best part is that they are setting up a help line . check the link for more details.

To me VHP RSS and other organisations that oppose valentines day must take up awareness campaigns and run them throughout the year , this might help the youth realise the ill effects of aping this western tradition.

As I previously mentioned this valentines day generates huge business in the country , here are some stats. According to the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), the expenditure during Valentine’s week in India is a whopping at $27 million (Rs.15,000 crore). The estimate was based on a survey of 800 executives in major metropolitan cities and 1,000 students from 150 educational institutions.
