Erich Segal’s “Love Story”
While owning a vehicle and using it to commute to work gives you a lot of flexibility, using public transport to commute to office also has its own advantages, more so if your office is 15+ kilometers from your home. While you are spared from eking out your way in the peak hour traffic, you also have a lot of time at your disposal. Went to office in a MMTS last Friday and guess what …. finished reading one of the best books ever written. Yeah, I completed reading Erich Segal’s “Love Story”.
Saw this book for the first time with Sai, he was reading it when he was in love.(in fact he is even today 🙂 🙂 ) and was recommending it to me back then. Wanted to read it later and picked it up as the first book post marriage.
Now, what can I say about a book that has been on the best seller list for four decades, sold 30 million copies worldwide and got translated into as many 33 different languages. I think I should say I too read it. Reading the book the book was a joy, just 133 pages and you can complete it in just one sitting. The narration is so good that you just can’t just put the book down.
The book, as the title says, is a love story and is narrated in the first person by Oliver Barrett IV. He narrates how he met Jenny and how his life changed thereafter. I am not going to divulge any of the details of the plot and the kill the joy of someone who is genuinely interested in reading it. Do read the book and experience it for yourself. The impact of the characters in the book is so profound that you will remember Oliver and Jennifer for a long long time.
The author drove home the point “Love means never having to say you’re sorry” rather wonderfully. The cover page on of the editions says this book is for some one who is in love or was in love or hopes to be in love, I could not have said it more beautifully. I am happy I read it, hope it will be the same for you.
