Khudiram Bose

18 years 7 months 11 days was the age of Khudiraam bose when he laid his life for this country, he was barely an adult on the day he was hanged by the British Government. But in those 18 years he did some thing that started what is called agni-yuga where dozens and dozens of patriotic young men took up armed struggle against the British and laid down their lives for this country. This young boy holds the distinction for throwing the first bomb on the British who at that time were perpetrating heinous crimes against the Indians.

Khudiram learnt about the independence movement when he was 13, when he was 16 he planted bombs near police stations and started targeting the British officers, on April 30 1908 he along with his friend Prafulla threw a bomb to assassinate the Chief Presidency Magistrate Kingsford who was known to make brutal and blatant judgments against freedom fighters. Unfortunately Kingsford was not there in the carriage and actually his wife and daughter were travelling in it.

While Prafulla killed himself to escape an imminent arrest ,(he killed himself when police surrounded him from all sides).  Khudiram was picked up in within  3 days after the bomb attack. Khudiram was full of regret after learning that it was not Kingsford but three women who had been killed, he accepted his crime in the court. He was sentenced to death and was executed on 11 August 1908.

It is said that he was an inspiration to likes of  Bhagat Singh  and many other people who became revolutionaries . On this Independence Day let’s Salute to this courageous young lad  who embraced death with Bhagawad Gita in his hands and Vandemataram on his lips.

You can get more details about Khudiram Bose here. Please do read about him. I actually had a trouble in controlling my tears when I was reading about him.

Wishing every Indian a  very very happy Independence Day

Jai Hind.
